A Hearthstone company - serving Leesburg, VA

HeatShield Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield builds solid refractory systems, but we’ve seen enough of them in Leesburg to know where the weak points hide. The clay-rich Virginia soil and freeze-thaw cycles here don’t do any chimney system favors, and HeatShield’s refractory panels and metal interfaces have their own signatures of wear.

  • HeatShield UL-Listed refractory panels crack at the anchor points. The 24″ and 36″ standard panels expand and contract against their metal retainers, and after fifteen or twenty winters in Leesburg, hairline fractures radiate from the mounting holes. We remove the panel, inspect the steel backing for heat deformation, and install a new HeatShield OEM panel with upgraded stainless retainers. We don’t caulk over cracks. The panel is done.
  • HeatShield fireplace insert blower motors seize from dust and moisture. The FMI / HeatShield blower assemblies draw combustion air from the room, and in Leesburg’s humid summers, that dust turns to paste. The motor hums but won’t turn, or it screams on startup. We pull the assembly, test the thermodisc and speed control, and either rebuild with a matched OEM motor or source a quality aftermarket unit from our Famco supply line if the OEM is back-ordered.
  • HeatShield damper assemblies corrode at the pivot pin. The cast-aluminum throat dampers in older HeatShield systems oxidize where the pin passes through the frame, especially in homes that burn unseasoned oak from Loudoun County lots. The damper won’t open fully or it hangs open. We disassemble, clean the pivot bore, and install a stainless pin and bushing kit. If the frame is warped from overfire, we replace with a Gelco or Olympia Chimney damper that mates to the HeatShield throat.
  • HeatShield firebox rear walls bow from overfire or improper fuel. The refractory composition in pre-2010 HeatShield systems wasn’t rated for the sustained temperatures that modern EPA stoves can push through an insert. The rear wall develops a convex bulge, which eventually cracks the panel and lets heat reach the framing. We measure the deflection, document it with photos you can see, and replace with current-spec HeatShield refractory or a DuraFlex liner system if the damage has compromised the chimney structure.
  • HeatShield gas log set burners develop orifice corrosion. The brass orifices in HeatShield NG and LP burner assemblies pit from trace sulfur compounds in Virginia natural gas. The flame pattern goes yellow and lazy, and CO output rises. We gauge the orifices, replace with OEM brass or stainless spuds, and combustion-test before we leave. No guesswork on gas pressure.

Our HeatShield Fireplace Services Process

  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers at (571) 701-7519, any hour. We ask what you’re burning, how often, and what you’re seeing. Russell’s line: “Tell me what you are burning and how often, and I can tell you what your chimney looks like before I even climb up.”
  2. 2
Level-2 camera inspection. Our technician arrives in uniform, background-checked, with a chimney camera and combustion analyzer. We photograph every HeatShield component, fire the system, and record the footage. You see what we see.
  3. 3
Plain-English verdict and upfront pricing. We explain what’s failing, why it’s failing, and what happens if you wait. The estimate is the invoice. No surprises on the bill.
  4. 4
OEM or quality aftermarket repair. We stock HeatShield-compatible parts and maintain supply relationships for DuraFlex, Gelco, and Olympia Chimney components. If HeatShield OEM is the right call, we use it. If a quality aftermarket part from Famco or Copperfield meets the spec and saves you money without cutting corners, we’ll say so.
  5. 5
Test, document, and guarantee. We fire the system, verify draft and combustion numbers, and give you photos of the completed work. Every job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not right, we make it right. No arguing, no paperwork chase.
  6. 6
Cleanup and departure. We haul away old parts, lay down fresh floor protection, and leave the hearth cleaner than we found it. Most HeatShield fireplace jobs in Leesburg finish in one visit.

What HeatShield Fireplace Services Costs in Leesburg

These are real numbers for the Leesburg market, based on jobs we’ve completed in 2024 and 2025. Your exact estimate comes after inspection, and estimates are free.

Service Typical Range What Moves the Price
HeatShield refractory panel replacement (single) $340 - $580 Panel size, retainer condition, accessibility
HeatShield insert blower motor rebuild/replace $280 - $520 OEM vs. aftermarket motor, control module replacement
HeatShield damper repair or replacement $220 - $490 Pivot pin vs. full frame, throat size
HeatShield gas burner orifice service $180 - $340 Number of burners, gas line access, combustion retest
HeatShield firebox rear wall replacement $680 - $1,400 Extent of refractory damage, steel backing condition

Factors that raise or lower your price: whether the HeatShield unit is a standard factory size or a custom install, whether we can access the firebox without removing an surround or mantel, and whether the chimney needs simultaneous liner attention. We don’t recommend liner work without camera evidence you can see for yourself.

Why Leesburg Homeowners Call Hearthstone Chimney Co. for HeatShield Work

We’ve been serving Leesburg and Loudoun County for over 42 years. Russell Haines has spent the better part of two decades on roofs and in hearths here, including the older colonials near Morven Park where chimneys work hard every winter. He learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and built his career on masonry and chimney work done right the first time.

Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and trained on HeatShield’s specific interfaces and failure modes. We carry the 90-Day Done Right Promise on every job, backed by our K.E.Y.S. code: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. If we install a part and it’s not right, we come back. In writing, no arguing.

We also service and stock DuraFlex, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield components, so if your HeatShield system needs a part that crosses over to another professional-grade line, we don’t stall out waiting for a single-source shipment. We’ll be there when we say. Photos you can see, a plain-English verdict. A square deal: no surprises on the bill.
